Meet the winner of our Cratejoy competition, Jess Payne of Geeky Stitching Company

Jess Payne, founder of Geeky Stitching Company, entered our Cratejoy competition to win $500 to help her develop her cross stitching subscription box business. She tells us how she’s developing her contemporary stitch kits.

What inspired you to start your business?

When I rediscovered my love of cross stitching last year, I realised the patterns available weren’t really my style, so I started to design my own. After posting a few pictures on Instagram, I realised that other people also liked my ideas, so thought it was a perfect opportunity for me to launch something I was really passionate about.

Tell us a bit about your subscription boxes.

There’s a different theme to the boxes each month – at the moment they’re all based around food. Each subscriber receives a full cross stitch kit with threads, a hoop and instructions, plus two extra patterns, a postcard and some pom pom trim to decorate the finished hoop. All this is wrapped up in tissue paper and sprinkled with ‘unicorn poop’ confetti, plus a couple of sweet treats for good measure!

How will this Cratejoy prize help you grow your business?

I’m going to use the prize money to develop the packaging of my kits – I want it to be a true reflection of my brand, so there’ll be lots of pink involved!
