Celebrate Love to Write Day*

love-to-write

We’re celebrating Love to Write day with two makers whose creative journeys begin with the written word. Meet Poppy’s Memory Box and Walks in Beauty Paperie…

Whether we’re writing to-do lists, love letters or short stories, in this digital age, taking pen to paper can feel as therapeutic as casting on a row of stitches or colouring in. For Lesley and Nadia, the written word would have them begin their creative businesses. Find out why…

Poppy’s Memory Box

As long as designer Lesley Hillman can remember she has been writing. Childhood stories followed by diaries of teen angst and a long-term love affair with penpalling – writing has left her with a rich personal library and a plethora of close friends.

Her business, Poppy’s Memory Box, grew out of a desire to preserve the most precious of memories. She sensitively creates prints for others using the written word to create familiar shapes. From stunning 1st birthday chalkboard prints to touching pet memorials or prints of motivation. Lesley is determined that you never have to forget those moments you tell yourselves you won’t.

She quotes William Wordsworth, “Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.”

Walks in Beauty Paperie

A love of writing and penpalling since age 8 were what prompted American expat Nadia Marie Perez Bugler to create Walks in Beauty Paperie and design beautiful vintage inspired and whimsical stationery. Using collage and mixed media, Nadia has been designing since 2013 and selling on Etsy since 2014. Each item is hand cut, thoughtfully packaged and given a personal touch making you feel like you’ve just received a gift from your best friend.

Specialising mainly in writing papers, she also offers postcards, hand-drawn stickers, journal cards and more for your writing needs. Quirky or vintage, artsy or cute, there’s something for everyone! On occasion you will see items made by Nadia’s husband, Alan Bugler with whom she also exchanged creative letters before moving across the pond to reside with him permanently.

Now that’s a true love of writing!
