Say hello to craft workshops and creative events taking place in May.

We’re starting to embrace spring and look forward to summer (goodbye, snow), so we’re all about fresh new workshops to get us in the mood for warmer days. We’ve got some greenery-themed events for all your crazy plant ladies, and plenty of workshops where you can learn new skills- think brush lettering and sewing with interfacing. Wild colour foraging walk

London Craft Club's wild colour foraging walk

Kick the new month off with a Wild colour foraging walk, where you’ll discover the leaves, roots and flowers growing all around the capital that can be used to create natural dyes and colours. London Craft Club has invited natural dye expert Flora Arbuthnott to lead the walk. She’ll be sharing her knowledge about identifying and harvesting natural dye plants, as well as some medicinal and edible varieties.

Make a fabric storage basket

Make a fabric storage basket at The Makery

Storage looking a bit, well, boring? In this workshop you can whiz up a fabric storage basket that manages to be both useful and beautiful (William Morris would be proud). All materials are provided and the only skills you need are the ability to thread a sewing machine and sew in a straight-ish line. By the end of the class you’ll be able to sew with interfacing and will come away with a lovely new basket for your home.

Crochet Lola the beagle

Crochet Lola the beagle at a TOFT workshop

Just look at that face! The crafty bods at TOFT have created Lola the beagle and are holding a workshop so you can crochet her too. They’ll teach you how to start and finish each body part, sew everything together, read a crochet pattern and to understand any special techniques or stitches you’ll need. You don’t need to bring anything along as yarn, a soft grip crochet hook, pattern, drink and cake are provided.

Forget London Fashion Week, we’re all about London Craft Week. For the fourth year running, the celebration of British and international creativity will hit London town and we can’t wait. The festival will feature over 200 established and emerging designers, makers, galleries and brands from around the globe, and will include demos, workshops and exhibitions. It’s an event not to be missed.

Needle felted cactus!

Rachel Henderson's needle felted cactus workshop

In this workshop you’ll create your own cactus but not as you’ve seen one before… Rachel Henderson has imagined this quirky needle felted plant for her book Boho Felt Crafts, and will show you how to make one too. In the session you’ll experiment with felt-making techniques using different equipment, craft your faux plant and go home with instructions and wool tips so you can make another. And the best part? You don’t even have to be green fingered.

Take part in a Kokedama workshop and Q&A with founder of geo-fleur

Always looking for the latest plant craze? We bring you kokedama, a Japanese variant of bonsai that’s taking Instagram by storm. In this workshop you’ll get your hands dirty creating your own – a dangling sculptural object that’ll add interest to your home. Bonus: there’ll also be time to ask all your pressing plant questions to Sophie Lee, founder of the famous geo-fleur and author of Living With Plants. You’ll leave the workshop with a kokedama, hand-printed tote bag, and considerably more green fingered than before.

Brush lettering workshop

Becky Clark's brush lettering workshop

The lovely Becki Clark, Art Ed at our sister mag In The Moment, is sharing her skills in this two-hour brush lettering workshop. You’ll find out a bit about brush lettering and how you can use it, get comfortable with using the brush, practise the alphabet and finish by creating your own brush lettered print to give pride of place at home. Becki will be on hand with loads of tips and guidance throughout the workshop. All materials are included and there’ll be chocolate brownies too. We’re there.
