We hear from textile designer Stephanie Ann Woolven Youth Award winner about what the Mollie Makes Handmade Awards was like and what she’s up to now…
Apart from designing heartbreakingly beautiful lingerie, stitched by Welsh seamstresses using couture techniques, what makes Stephanie’s work so exceptional is her interesting creative process. Stephanie’s first lingerie collection presented at the Mollie Makes Handmade Awards features romantic designs created by freezing flowers and using photography and illustration to reimagine them as fabric. The final result? Smooth-to-touch, quality bralettes, knickers and kimonos – professionally finished and gorgeous.
Here’s Stephanie on what the Mollie Makes Handmade Awards was like and what she’s up to now…
“A year has flown by since I entered the Mollie Makes Handmade Awards! I was very nervous as a finalist but the Mollie Makes team and judges put me at ease and made my interview feel more like a friendly chat rather than a serious or scary meeting. I gained valuable feedback on my products and ideas of where to go next and how to progress.
The day was so much fun and it was great to chat to other creative people and share knowledge. My prize for the Youth Award included a day with Lisa Comfort and a visit to Etsy HQ. Lisa gave me confidence to put my ideas into action helping me with PR, social media and product design and the Etsy team helped me revamp my Etsy shop.
At the moment I’m working on my 3rd collection, released this autumn inspired by the contrasts of light and dark featured in Lord Bryon’s poetry. I’m moving StephieAnn forward by developing my best selling styles, streamlining the collections and launching in boutiques. It’s an exciting time for me, I’m even more committed and passionate about starting out on my own and creating a viable business.”
