Rag rugging is an age-old British craft that is increasingly being taken up by creatives. Watch this DIY rug how-to and make your own with Ragged Life…
Founded in 2014 by two friends with a passion for design, crafts and creative living, Elspeth and Kate began Ragged Life specialising in handmade rag rug homeware, fashion and art. Using rags that would otherwise go to landfill, the designer Elspeth Jackson uses rag rug techniques to create striking and playful designs, reinventing this old (and somewhat forgotten) craft to give it a new lease of life. They regularly undertake commissions through the website and sells pre-made pieces on Etsy if you’re looking for something different to brighten up the home.
Fancy giving it a go? Watch the how-to video above to get started or join a monthly rag rug workshop in London and Hertfordshire (details of which can be found on the website). Savvy crafters can make their own rag rug at home, nab yourself a Rag Rug Starter Kit which includes all the tools you need to get going.
