We’re supporting ‘Just a Card’, a campaign launched by Sarah Hamilton to support independent shops and galleries. Here’s how just a card could change the High Street…
“If everyone who’d complimented our beautiful gallery had bought just a card we’d still be open.” That’s the quote that spurred designer and artist Sarah Hamilton on to launch the ‘Just a Card‘ campaign, and we’re thrilled to be supporting her alongside The Design Trust. “As an artist and designer, I know just how valuable each and every sale is, not only to independent shops and galleries, but to their artists and designer suppliers,” says Sarah. “They need our support, and that is why we started our campaign Just a Card – to encourage people to appreciate just how invaluable every purchase is.”
Now it’s more important than ever to support our local independent shops. To keep our High Streets peppered with interesting galleries and indie shops we need to be mindful of our buying choices. So whether it’s just a card, a print or a piece of jewellery, support your favourite makers, and show us your purchases using the hashtag #justacard.
1. Get goodies from justacard.org
Download the web buttons, posters and postcards and display it at your shows and events and give it to independent shops and galleries. The little postcards have all the info you’ll need to spread the word and small enough to carry them with you, always.
2. Follow the campaign
3. Tell everyone!
Share Just a Card posts as much as you can, blog about it, tell your friends and favourite designer-makers – spread the word and support the artists and designers you love so they can stay in business.
4. Buy something, even if it’s #justacard
“Supporting local businesses is crucial if we want to keep our local High Street alive and buzzing with independent, exciting and creative shops. Don’t just talk about it, do something about it: shop locally and you will make a real difference!” Patricia van den Akker – Director of The Design Trust.
“A small purchase can make a huge difference if we all get involved. At Mollie Makes we are all about working together to support our creative community – it keeps us mindful in our buying choices, as well as spreading the joy of beautiful, thoughtful designs.” Editor of Mollie Makes. www.justacard.org
