4 last-minute Father’s Day gift ideas

Hannah Bullivant and Davina Drummond of Seeds and Stitches show us how to make these simple Father’s Day gift ideas. There’s still time to whip up a handmade gift for Father’s Day this weekend

Make a Father’s Day gift pack including a super card, customised beer labels, personalised pastry and Father’s Day morning crackers filled with tiny notes explaining why you love him. These projects were originally featured on the Seeds and Stitches blog. Big thanks to Hannah and Davina for sharing their Father’s Day gift ideas with all of us. All photos by Kristy Noble

“For Father’s Day this year, Davina and I wanted to make a really big fuss of our lovely husbands, and all the ways they love our kids, and share parenting with us. Fatherhood is sometimes a bit neglected in talk of parenting but it’s so important for many reasons, and we wanted to shout about it. We also wanted to somehow use our kids paintings in a contemporary way too. Our misters are craft beer nuts and pie lovers, so our Father’s Day project combined our daughters drawings, with beer and pie.”

Dad Pie Pastry

Mollie Makes Fathers Day gift ideas Pie by Seeds and Stitches 5

Homemade pie filling of your choice. We used a beef and ale pie recipe by the Hairy Bikers (to go with our ‘beer’ theme.)

You will need:
• 2 boxes of ready rolled puff pastry
• Letter cutters
• Milk for glazing and sticking
• Pie dish
• Flour for dusting pastry

Step 1
Make your pie filing according to the instructions in the recipe you choose. Fill pie dish to rim.

Step 2
Brush the edges of the pie dish with milk then unravel pastry, place on top, and use a knife to cut off the overhang. Use the back of a fork to press the edges of the pastry onto the rim of the pie dish.

Step 3
Roll out second roll of pastry, dust with flour and cut out letters of your choice. If cutters are sticking, dust them with flour. We also cut out some ‘pow!’ shapes, as this is a theme in our Father’s Day makes. We cut out a cardboard pow template, placed it onto the pastry and cut around it with a craft knife on a cutting board.

Step 4
Brush the back of the letters with milk and arrange on the pastry.

Step 5
Cook for approximately 20 mins, or until the pastry has slightly puffed up and looks golden.

Step 6
Serve the dads in your life a delicious Father’s Day meal!
