Here at Mollie Makes, we’re huge fans of all things creative and community, so whether you’re a hobby maker or a full-on creative business owner, whether you live in the north or the south of the UK, September is a month for you.
Hitting both Manchester & Exeter, ‘Creatival’ will be ‘a day of inspiration and business development for independent creatives and makers’ and it is one that you really shouldn’t be missing!
We’re thrilled to be going along for the ride and will be at both events doing talks on how to write a press release. But as well as us, you’ll be treated to a huge range of industry experts from Leona Thrift Ola of Indie Roller, to Veronica Dearly, to Kalkidan Legesse of Sanchos, and Lucy & Yak – and so much more besides.
Helen Bottrill, founder of The Creative Business Network, ran the inaugural Creatival event in Exeter last year. After running creative networking groups for years in the South West, Helen wanted to put on a bigger event that would offer real actionable business knowledge as well as having access to inspiring speakers and a fun community vibe. It was a fantastic success and after seeing it online, Megan Jones (Curated Makers) asked Helen if she would bring it up to Manchester this year.
So alongside a second Exeter event (being held at the incredible Powderham Castle), Helen has also joined forces with Megan to organise a northern event too (in the newly refurbished city centre venue Manchester Hall). The two haven’t met yet – all their communication has been online – but have carved out a great friendship, which is after all, the whole reason Creatival exists – to bring together the creative community and forge friendships, connection, and collaborative ideas. We can’t wait to be involved!!
So here are just a few of our favourites who’ll be speaking over the two events.
Bristol based self-doubt coach, and previous judge at our Handmade Awards; Sas Petherick will be at Exeter Creatival with a lunchtime workshop on the relationship between self-doubt and running your own business. Sas is an incredible coach who has worked across the globe and at the core of her work is (in her own words) an unconditional commitment to helping you navigate through self-doubt to cultivate self-acceptance, self-trust, self-worth and self-belief. Sign us up!
Humorous, and incredibly clever illustrator Veronica Dearly will be the closing keynote at Exeter Creatival and we’re sure will bring her dry wit to the talk. She’ll be sharing her business experiences, highs and lows, and how she came to be the viral success she now is!
Leona Thrift Ola
Our fave Leona will be the opening keynote at Creatival Manchester and after her inspiring opening at Exeter last year, is sure to set the day alight with her wisdom, insight and addictive personality. With a keynote created for the day, Leona will teach us how to step away from the screen and do the work you want to be known for. She’ll be sharing a myth-busting-secret-sharing real talk focusing on simplifying what you do to grow a sustainable and profitable business that you feel excited about.
The founder of delicious fine stationery brand Meticulous Ink, Athena will be a joy to listen to at Creatival Manchester. As well as telling the story of how Meticulous Ink came to be, she will talk about the highs and lows of running a physical shop, the importance of having varied revenue streams, and how to deal with constant change in your creative business. Athena has so much energy and knowledge for business that we will be so fired up listening to her!
There will be so much more to listen to and learn from – you can find out all the details here; https://www.thecreativebusinessnetwork.com/creatival2019.html
