4. Mollie Makes Digital Editor, Sarah Gane has a great knack for finding bargains. This box of silk crochet yarn cost her only 50p! 5. Editor, Lara Watson enjoying the sun in her folk-style fringe boots. 6. Production Editor, Sarah Montrose had the whole office admiring her handmade badger shoes she made at @hettyanddave‘s workshop.

Once Deputy Art Director at Vogue Living, Hello Sandwich now runs regular classes in Tokyo, making all manner of pretty things – from fabric book covers (adorned with pom-poms) to handmade letter writing sets and envelopes. We popped along to her Photo Collage Workshop for a chat.

What first drew you to Japan?
Before I moved here in 2010, I’d been to Tokyo nine times on holiday! I thought it would be cheaper to just move over. I’ve always had a fascination with the creative culture in Japan, which started when I saw a book on Tokyo street fashion.

What are your top three craft shops in Tokyo?
Tools and Sekaido in Shinjuku for stationery and art supplies. Tokyu Hands is my one-stop shop for masking tape, envelopes and stickers.

What are your favourite blogs at the moment?
send more mail, Design Love Fest and Oh Happy Day.

Where do you get your inspiration?
Everywhere. Blogs, magazines, books, packaging, cafés, shops, galleries… Being a foreigner in Japan, everything is fresh and a great source of inspiration.

We can’t help but make a song and dance over Pillow Throw Décor’s magenta and lime green heart cushion – it’s just too pretty not to!

If we could start a craft circus, our performance tent would be made from every print we’ve featured on Fabric Fridays, our circus animals would be crocheting cats and tickets would be delivered by the elephant caddy featured in issue 23 of Mollie Makes. Sound fun?

Mr Polar Bear by Ravynka would definitely be our ringmaster. You can’t go to the circus and not have any popcorn – so this popcorn print is a perfect addition to our circus fabric roundup.

Owl and Drum have a harlequin print that we think would make a pretty lampshade (have a look in issue 20 to find a tutorial on how to make one).

Juggling lions in our circus – heck yes! – as long as they juggle balls of yarn.

January gets you thinking about past achievements and setting those goals for the year ahead. At the Mollie HQ we’ve all made a similar resolution (although most of us aren’t so keen on the word), and that is to craft lots more.

“Can you guys craft much more?” we hear you ask – why yes, yes we can!

A stack of vintage bowls from a second-hand shopping spree finds its way home. Mollie Makes Home went on sale today, it’s filled with beautiful abodes from our favourite designers, check it out.

This is our home town, Bath, covered in snow – so pretty, right? We tackle clutter with industrial-strength, pink-coloured gloves. We visit Home London where AU Maison wrapped a rocking chair in fabric – someone pass us the scraps!

Everyone, raid your gran’s old sewing tin; you’re bound to find vintage supplies like the ”required by all ladies” Success fasteners. Fabrics, all the way from South Africa, find their way to the Mollie Makes office for a look-see. The first project made from that fabric was a makeup bag.
