Easter crafts: How to make crochet eggs

Mix up the texture in your Easter egg bundle by adding a few crochet versions in bright candy colours. They’re a cinch to hook up – show us yours using #molliemakers.

Try out your egg cover after a couple of rounds to check your tension, and pop your polystyrene egg in before you decrease too much, otherwise it won’t fit. Each egg is worked in the round in a continuous spiral. Don’t join at the end of each round, and mark the first st of a round.

Materials
• Drops Safran yarn, 100% Combed 4ply Cotton, 50g/160m per ball, one ball each in Lime (31), Turquoise (30) and Medium Pink (02)
• 3mm (UK 10, US D/3) crochet hook
• Tapestry needle
• Three polystyrene eggs (6cm (23/8″) high)
• Stitch marker (optional)

Tension
Tension isn’t too important; just aim for a tight fabric which covers the egg so no polystyrene shows through

Abbreviations (UK)
st(s) stitch(es)
ch chain
dc double crochet
yrh yarn round hook
dc2tog double crochet 2 together (insert hook in next st, yrh and draw loop through) twice, yrh and draw through all 3 loops on hook

Finished size
Each ege measures approx. 6cm (23/8″) high by 13cm (5¼”) around
