How to make a Christmas leather brooch

Remember our Love From Hetty and Dave brooch kit exclusive to Mollie Makes? Well, Zoe Larkins is back with a faux leather make that’ll give your wooly jumpers and winter coats a trendy update, 50s-style. While we’ve added a source for buying faux leather in the materials list, this little mittens brooch can be made using materials from your craft stash, too such as oil cloth, felt or thick fabric. Make a His & Hers set as quirky handmade gifts. Or better yet: Treat. Yo. Self.

Step one
Cut out the leather shapes using the brooch templates provided, and hole punch the white scalloped edge to create a lace look.
Step two
Glue the white scalloped piece on top of the turquoise leather. The turquoise should peek through the small holes in the white leather frame. With the red thread, sew a running stitch around the inner edge.
Step three
Glue the ends of the narrow red ribbon to the suede side of the mittens.
Step four
Loop the ribbon with the mittens attached and position them onto the turquoise oval. Glue into place when you’re happy. With white thread, neatly stitch around the edges, and add cuff and snowflake details onto the mittens.
Step five
With the gold thread, stitch the gold star sequins into place on the turquoise background.
Step six
Next, take the red leather oval, and stitch the brooch back onto, top half of the leather side using red thread.
Step seven
Glue the front and back pieces together, suede sides facing. With the white thread stitch all the way around the edge.
That’s it! Share your leather brooch WIPs on Instagram and Twitter using #molliemakers, we’d love to see!
