Stitch it like you mean it with Genevieve Brading’s metallic hand-stitched cards – a handmade twist on festive greetings. Happy New Year!
You will need:
• A5 navy blue cardstock
• A design, traced or printed onto paper
• Washi tape (or paperclips)
• Needle, size 5
• Kreinik fine #8 braid thread in silver (001) and gold (002)
• A5 cream cardstock
• Metal ruler
• Cutting mat
Fold the navy cardstock in half to form a greetings card. Position your design on the front of your card and tape it down lightly (or secure it using paperclips).
Punch your needle at regular intervals along each design line, passing the needle fully through the card. The longer the intervals, the longer your stitches will be; keep them smaller on curves. Gently remove the paper design when done.
Thread your needle and backstitch the design through the holes, stitching the words in the same way as you would write them. Dot the ‘i’ using a French knot. Weave the thread ends into your stitching to secure them.
Fold the cream cardstock in half. Neatly trim approx 5mm off the side and bottom edges, ideally using a scalpel, metal ruler and cutting mat. Glue the card to the inside of your stitched greetings card. Once dry, get writing!
