Got your own blog or website? Check out our five top tips for producing content that’s friendly to both users and search engines…
Create friendly URLs Boost search engine optimisation (also known as SEO) and make your web page’s address easier to remember. For example: mysite.com/recipe/rich-tea-biscuit.
Meta description Use the META description [see left] to provide a concise and accurate description of your content. This will entice visitors from the search engine results page. For example: ‘Make the best tasting rich tea biscuits to enjoy with your afternoon cup of tea using our favourite recipe.’
Page title Choose something that communicates the topic effectively. Eg: ‘Rich tea biscuit recipe – make the best rich tea biscuits’
Page content The first 100 words of content carry more weight and should be used to provide a brief description of your content.
Use of images Choose a descriptive filename for images, eg rich-tea-biscuit.jpg. Use the ‘alternative text’ attribute [see left] to describe images. For example: ‘The perfect rich tea biscuit’. Provide an image caption to add context.
