Mollie Makes meets: Susie Iny

Mollie Makes meets the designer-maker behind issue 16‘s friendship bracelets, Cocoon Jewels‘ Susie Iny

“I have always been into arts and crafts. When I was a teenager in the Eighties, I would customise my jeans with patches and badges. Then a few years ago I enrolled on a silversmithing course and became hooked on jewellery making. Soldering silver is a fascinating process, which I really love.”

“There’s no room in my home for a studio, so I started making earrings with semi-precious stones using techniques I could do at my kitchen table. All my friends wanted to buy many of my creations and I booked stalls at local summer fairs to sell them. I then set up my Folksy shop online.”

“I’m known among friends for the pretty earrings and necklaces I make, but a lot of people had been asking me to make bracelets. I noticed some celebrities wearing all types of woven and braided colourful bracelets and decided to research how to make them. I created a few and wore them to a party and all my friends reeled off their orders there and then!”

“I love to wear these bracelets stacked with various styles – some mixed colours and some block colours. I love the way the threads dangle off the wrists like tassels. They look great with a casual outfit like a pair harem trousers, a baggy vest top and gladiator sandals or pumps.”
