What can you do with salt and pepper shakers? There’s only so many you can hide away in drawers and cupboards. Here’s how to upcycle them from practical workaday essentials into small objects of desire…

As ever, our key words on a thrifty Thursday are upcycling, recycling and re-invention. We’ve found three adorable examples of salt and pepper shakers turned into cute home accessories. Let’s shake it…

First up, what a great idea. Turn a collection of salt shakers into picture holders with this easy tutorial by Nikki at Whimsy Love. Looks particularly cute with a range of different salt pots and vintage photos, but you could also try out sugar shakers too.

Very dinky! Put a salt shaker to good use and show off your buttons. This sweet button bouquet was designed by Emily from Remember Me Emily. Emily’s miniature salt cellar button bouquets would look fantastic en masse at weddings or parties.

And the prettiest and simplest of all is to turn a salt shaker into a tiny vase. Trust us, anyone could do this. Pop a tiny flower in a vintage salt shaker and you’ve got instant style. This beautiful mini floral display is by Kate from Greedy for Colour.

Ooh, and talking of bouquets and floral display, that reminds us… For more wedding ideas you must take a peep at issue 14 with our free wedding lookbook Let’s Get Hitched! No, really, don’t miss it. It’s so luscious, even if you’re not getting married, it’s an inspirational feast!
